L.A. Leads U.S. in HD-Capable Homes

Nielsen Media Research reported that among U.S. Hispanic or Latino households, 10.4% are HD capable and 8.2% are HD receivable.

José Ramón Fernández, long considered an institution in Mexican sports journalism, will join ESPN’s Spanish-language commentary team. He makes his debut Tuesday, Nov. 6, alongside Fernando Palomo and Mario Kempes as commentator for the UEFA Champions League match featuring Olympiacos vs. Real Madrid at 2:30 p.m. ET. Next Sunday, Nov. 11, will mark Fernández’s first appearance as host of ESPN’s Mexican soccer news-and-information program Fútbol Picante.
 
Veteran Univision anchor Denisse Oller has left the network after a 20-year run. The Puerto Rico native, who co-anchored the 6 and 11 p.m. Noticias 41 newscasts, signed off on Friday Nov. 2. Oller said she left Univision to pursue new ventures, combining two of her “great passions:” journalism and cooking. She also said she is forming a multimedia company that will include Internet, TV, print and radio components.
 
CaribeVisión has appointed Hispanic media executive Don Parsons as its first president of sales. With more than 20 years of experience in executive leadership and sales roles, Mr. Parsons will be responsible for overseeing CaribeVisión’s sales force. The appointment is effective immediately and was announced Oct. 30 by Carlos Barba, President of CaribeVisión Holdings.
 
Arturo Villar, founder and publisher of Hispanic Market Weekly, on Monday Nov. 5 launched La Política, the first electronic trade publication covering the business of reaching Hispanic voters in the U.S. Former Multichannel News contributing editor Luis Clemens has been appointed editorial director of the weekly publication.
